Interfacial Shear Rheometer ISR1
In shear rheology the experiments are performed such that the viscosity and elasticity of the interfacial layer are measured. Typical experiments are those using a torsion pendulum, as it is the case in our ISR1. The shear visco-elasticity is an excellent measure for the quantification of structure formations in interfacial layers. The ISR1 is an instrument with a very high sensitivity and is therefore suitable for less dense and rigid layers, where other shear instruments based on forced oscillations cannot be applied.


Measures interfacial shear rheology after torsion pendulum principle
This instrument allows measuring the interfacial shear elasticity and viscosity of layers between two fluids (liquid/liquid or liquid/gas). The main principle is a torsion pendulum. Different measuring bodies are used to work at liquid surfaces or at interfaces between two immiscible liquids. The Interfacial Shear Rheometer (ISR-1) allows unique shear rheological experiments. The instrument is suitable for studies of adsorption layers (GIBBS-layers) and spread layers (LANGMUIR-layers).
The instrument allows the following measurements:
